Outdoor 5G Router – ZTE MC889 and T3000 Indoor WiFi6 Hotspot Router
ZTE have launched the MC889 and T3000 bundle. This is their most affordable 5G router solution for homes and businesses that have a stronger 5G signal outdoors and need high speed WiFi indoors.
The bundle includes the ZTE MC889 Outdoor 5G router into which you insert your 5G SIM card and mount outside where the router can benefit from receiving the strongest 5G network signal. A single Ethernet cable which provides power to the router and delivers the high speed Internet to the indoors T3000 unit means it is a very simple installation. The fact that the cable between the outdoor 5G router and the indoor WiFi hotspot means that the distance between them can be much longer (up to 100m) compared to typical installations where the 5G router is installed indoors and multiple antenna cables are installed to the outdoor antenna. With most outdoor 5G antennas having 2 or 4 cables and recommendations of maximum cable lengths of 5 or 10m you can immediately see the benefit of installing the router outdoors rather than a 5G antenna.
The ZTE MC889 5G router works on 5G and 4G network frequencies so even if you don’t get 5G yet, you can benefit from much faster 4G speeds compared to low cost CAT4 4G routers. Once the Ethernet cable (supplied with the router) is connected to the POE injector and the second Ethernet cable (also supplied) is connected from the POE injector to the T3000 WiFi6 router then you can usually start using the router without any configuration changes if you want to use the existing WiFi password and using a standard network SIM card from EE, O2, 3mobile or O2. In fact the MC889 router will probably worth with most MVNO data SIM cards (Tesco Mobile, SMARTY etc) without any additional configuration.
All your wireless devices such as phones and tablets can connect to the standard dual band WiFi with a single SSID and most android devices can connect by simply tapping their phone to the T3000 indoor router.
The ZTE MC889 and T3000 bundle is great value and provides a simple, high speed 5G mobile broadband solution for most homes and businesses and even many rural broadband installations.

Can this be used on a canal boat
Hi Jason – I think it would be ideal for use on a canal barge. The router with the built-in antennas can go outdoors to pick up the best signal and will then just have a single Ethernet cable to run to your POE injector and indoor WiFi 6 unit. As long as you have 240VAC available for the POE injector and internal WiFi router then youw ill be fine. It saves installing an indoor 5G router and an external 4×4 antenna and four lots of antenna cables with signal loss along the antenna cable lengths.
